My Journey

Hi there! I'm Leanne Keator, and I have been working in the pet care industry for over 15 years as a pet sitter. A few years ago, I decided to shift my focus to dogs and their relationships with humans. I noticed certain issues in my clients' homes that I didn't know how to address, so I delved into the world of dog training and took a certification course with the Animal Behavior College. I also started volunteering at a local shelter to gain more experience.

However, I felt like I had only scratched the surface and wanted to connect with like-minded individuals who appreciate dogs for their unique traits rather than just their obedience. I disagreed with the forceful and physical corrections used by some trainers and believed that there had to be a better and safer way to approach dog training.

Around the same time, I adopted my dog, Pluto, an 8-month-old hound mix who was cautious and curious. Traditional group classes didn't suit us, and I wanted a more organic and engaging approach to training.

As I continued my search, I came across professionals such as Josh Beckler, Denise Fenzi, and Amy Cook, who integrated various scientific fields into their training methodologies. I was particularly intrigued by the L.E.G.S Applied Ethology Family Dog Mediation course created by Kim Brophey.

The L.E.G.S. approach takes into account learning, environment, genetics, and self when working with each individual dog. Dogs are unique, with their own personalities, genetic backgrounds, and learning styles, so there's no one-size-fits-all approach to training. I aimed to create programs that focused on understanding dogs and building stronger, more organic relationships between dogs and their guardians.

Our Philosophy

Wild Hearts K9 was founded on the belief that compassionate and communicative-based training aids in the development of a better relationship between you and your dog.

We want to highlight your dog's personality to create more dog, not less. We do this by meeting the dog where they're at and helping them to navigate this ever-changing human world while building a more engaging bond with you!
